Tools and materials:
- Outer fabric
- Padded fusible interfacing
- Bias tape
- Elastic cord
- Button
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Pins
- Pressing cloth
- Iron
- Hand sewing needle and thread
- Sewing machine
1. Measure and cut
Measure the length and width of your laptop.
Add some extra for seam allowances and ease. I added about 2 inches (5 cm) to the length and width.
Cut two pieces of a firm fabric for the outer cover.
You also need two pieces of padded fusible interfacing, the same size as your cover.
2. Padding
Place the interfacing sticky side down on the back of your cover fabric.
Use a pressing cloth to protect your iron and press firmly until the interfacing is attached.
Add padding to the second cover piece in the same way.
3. Sew
Pin and sew the two pieces together with right sides facing.
4. Trim and turn
Snip off the corners and turn the cover right side out.
5. Loop
Cut about a 4 inch (10 cm) piece of elastic cord.
Fold it in half and sew it to the outside of the cover in the center of the top edge, to make a loop.
6. Binding
You need a piece of bias tape long around to go around the top end of the cover.
Wrap it over the raw edge and sew in place.
7. Fastening
Hand sew a button near the top edge of the case opposite the elastic loop.

Slip your laptop inside and your DIY laptop case is ready to go!
It’s quick and easy to make and could be a great gift for someone.
