6 Cute and Easy Hairstyles With Claw Clips

In this tutorial, I’m sharing a few of my favorite hairstyles with claw clips — using a flat claw clip, which I love for its simple, comfortable, everyday style.

Why I love flat claw clips

If you’ve ever tried driving with a regular claw clip, you know the struggle — it pushes into your seat and gets uncomfortable fast.

The flat claw clip, on the other hand, sits flush against your head so you can actually lean back comfortably.

Style 1: The simple twisted updo

1. Make a low ponytail

Gather your hair at the nape of your neck and secure it with a hair tie.

2. Create an opening

Use your fingers to make a small opening right above the elastic, just big enough to fit your thumb through.

3. Tuck the ponytail upward

Take the entire ponytail and gently tuck it upward into that opening.

4. Twist as you go

As you push the hair through, begin twisting it to help shape the updo and keep it secure.

5. Clip and adjust

Secure the twist with your flat claw clip. Stretch it out slightly if needed and adjust any loose ends until it feels comfortable and looks even.

That’s it! A soft, low updo that’s comfortable and polished.

Style 2: The tucked bun

This one works either half-up or full-up. I’m doing a full version here.

1. Create a mid-level ponytail

Gather your hair into a ponytail at the midpoint of your head.

2. Form a loose bun

On the last loop of your hair tie, pull your hair only partway through to make a soft, loose bun.

3. Split and twist the ends

Divide the remaining ends of your ponytail into two sections and lightly twist them to keep them neat.

4. Make an opening

Use your fingers to create a small opening right above where the bun sits.

5. Tuck the bun upward

With your fingers, gently press the bun under and up through that opening.

6. Shape and secure

Stretch and adjust the bun until it looks even, and clip it in place with your flat claw clip.

You can finish it in a few ways:

• Leave the ends hanging for a relaxed look.

• Twist them around the bun and clip underneath for a neater style.

• Or tie a simple knot with the ends before clipping for something more textured.

Style 3: The quick low twist

1. Gather and twist

Start with a low ponytail and twist it upward toward the top of your head.

2. Form a bun

Let the ends loop naturally into a small bun shape as you twist.

3. Secure and shape

Clip everything in place with your flat claw clip, then gently spread out the bun for a fuller look.

This one’s fast, effortless, and great for busy mornings.

Style 4: The criss-cross half-up

1. Divide your hair

Take the top half of your hair and divide it into two sections.

2. Criss-cross once

Cross the two pieces over each other once to create a twist.

3. Lift and position

Lift one section upward so you have one piece on top and one below.

4. Clip it

Insert your claw clip right through the center of the twist.

5. Adjust and finish

Flip the top section down, tighten gently, and adjust until it’s even.

It’s simple but gives that nice, elevated half-up look.

Style 5: Easy beehive twist

1. Section the top of your hair

Take the top third section of your hair — the area above your temples — and separate it from the rest.

2. Twist and lift

Gently twist this section of hair, then push it forward slightly to create a beehive shape at the front.

3. Secure the style

Clip the twisted section in place at the back of your head using your claw clip.

4. Adjust as needed

Use your fingers or a comb to smooth and shape the beehive until you’re happy with the volume and balance.

Style 6: The vertical twist bun

1. Create a pony-bun

Pull your hair back as if you’re making a ponytail, but on the last loop, only pull your hair partway through to form a small bun.

2. Split and twist

Divide the bun into two sections and twist it so it sits vertically.

3. Clip to secure

Insert your flat claw clip right down the middle to hold everything in place.
