DIY Nail Polish Remover Tutorial
Follow along with this DIY nail polish remover tutorial to learn a natural nail care, acetone alternative that is kinder to your body. It’s easy to make with just two ingredients. Let’s get started.
Best value vinegar!
Tools and materials:
- Bowl for hands
- Bowl for mixture
- Measuring tablespoon
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Cotton ball or reusable makeup remover pad
- Nail cream (optional)
1. Soak your nails
Start by soaking your nails in warm water to soften the polish. Soak for about 10-15 minutes.
2. Create the nail polish remover
To create your DIY nail polish remover, mix equal parts lemon juice with white vinegar in a bowl.
3. Apply solution to your nails
Soak the cotton ball into the nail polish remover and press on each nail for 20 seconds or so to dissolve the enamel.
You might have to hold the solution on longer if you painted the polish on thick. Then wipe the polish off. You might need to help the polish along by scratching off any remaining bits with your nail.
My first nail looks pretty clean.
Continue on all of your fingers.
4. Apply nail cream
Now here’s the extra credit. Apply nail cream or simple moisturizer onto your clean nails to help strengthen and hydrate them.
This is an important step to take as the vinegar tends to dry out the skin.

Maybe neutralize the vinegar by using a baking soda solution and dip fingernails in it after nail polish removal. Then rinse.
My hubby was steaming some shrimp in a small pot and forgot to turn the burner off and those in the bottom of the pot burned. I was upset and he told me not to worry white vinegar will remove it. He let it soak for a few minutes and the vinegar had removed the burnt food from the pot. I was shocked!!
