1. Hydrate and prep your skin
Mature skin tends to be drier and more porous, so a hydrating skincare routine is essential.
Cleanse your skin morning and evening to remove impurities.
After cleansing, apply a few drops of a serum with hyaluronic acid. This ingredient acts as a "moisture magnet," retaining hydration and giving your skin a plump, dewy look.
For the day, use a light but hydrating moisturizer. At night, apply a richer night cream to restore and deeply hydrate your skin while you sleep.
Apply a primer to create a smooth base for makeup, blurring fine lines and helping makeup last longer. Use a small amount on the forehead, chin, and cheeks, and blend it evenly across your face.
2. Perfect your base
Use a green color corrector to neutralize redness or a peach corrector to brighten dark circles under the eyes. Apply a small amount only to areas that need evening out.
Choose a foundation shade that closely matches your skin. Apply a light layer and build it up gradually to avoid a heavy, cakey finish.
Use a creamy concealer to target any remaining imperfections. Applying it with a flat brush provides precision, especially for fine lines or spots. For best results, place it on top of the foundation.
Lightly dust a translucent powder over your face using a large brush to set your foundation and concealer. This fine powder layer prevents shine and keeps makeup in place without emphasizing texture.
3. Define brows and lips
As we age, brows often become sparser, and lips lose definition. Re-adding structure here frames the face and enhances expression.
Brush your brows into shape with a spoolie brush, then apply a brow product in short, hair-like strokes for a natural look. Choose a shade that complements your natural color, whether brown, taupe, or gray.
Opt for a hydrating lipstick that complements your skin tone. Applying a pop of color, like a soft pink, adds life to your look and keeps lips from appearing flat or dull.
4. Optional finishing touches
For a fully polished look, consider adding a few finishing touches.
Soft eyeshadow shades in neutral or warm tones are ideal for mature eyes. Avoid heavy, dark shades, which can make the eyes look smaller.
A couple of swipes of mascara add volume and open up the eyes.
Lightly sweep blush on the apples of your cheeks for a natural flush. Cream formulas are often more flattering for mature skin.
