5 Top Makeup Tips for Older Women - How to Apply Makeup on Mature Skin
In this tutorial, I'm going to be sharing some of my best makeup tips for older women. Although there’s the saying that beauty exists at every age, if you’re over 50 you may be looking for some extra help.
As I’ve gotten older, I realize there are five things that help me to look and feel confident and attractive, so I'm sharing these makeup tips for mature faces here. The exact products I use are listed at the bottom of this post, but you can recreate the same techniques with your own products.

1. Start with skincare
Skin is the canvas of beauty. If the canvas is lumpy, bumpy, and otherwise in bad shape, makeup will make it look better. Everyone's skincare is unique to their skin type, so develop a consistent routine that works for you.
I cleanse my skin thoroughly but gently. After cleansing, I use a serum to smooth my skin and then follow with a good moisturizer. I like moisturizers that have SPF because I get sun protection in a product that helps to plump my skin as well. Double duty!
I use a facial scrub a few times a week to whisk away dead skin cells on my face.
I also make sure to drink enough water to keep my skin hydrated.
2. Wear makeup
Older skin loses luminescence or the ability to catch the light. Natural high colors like on lips and cheeks also fade with age. Makeup helps to add light and color where it’s needed to play up features.
Even if you don’t like wearing lots of makeup, just a little helps mature skin and faces brighten up and look better.
3. Correct eyebrows
Eyebrows truly frame the face and are important for expression and facial symmetry. Aging may make eyebrows lose shape, fade in color, or get scraggly or wiry hairs that go in all directions.
First, brush the eyebrow hairs up and across with a spoolie brush.
While some people like eyebrow pencil, I feel it looks artificial and powder shadows look too smudgy. I prefer eyebrow paint with a thin brush that I lightly apply with feathery strokes. This adds definition and density.
When I fill in the gaps, you can really see the difference. Run the spoolie over the brows again to correct any hairs. Well done eyebrows really help create a finished look.
4. Add color with blush
To brighten the face, I use a lovely pink blush rather than one that has an orange tint. Aging skin loses color in the eyes, lips, and cheeks.
Girls would pinch their cheeks in historical romances when there wasn’t any blush to purchase because pink rosy cheeks look healthy and beautiful. I use a cream-to-powder formula.
5. Put on lipstick
Lipstick helps to finish the look with a beautiful pop of color. I use a lip primer first. Sometimes lipstick feathers or bleeds on mature skin, giving a blurred lip line. Lip primer helps to lock the lipstick color in place for a sharp placement.
I’m using a rosy-toned lipstick that brings lovely color, light, and brightness to my face.

Well done on the eyes and lip color. The only thing you have to do is research eyebrows. Your very thin ones that are high on your brow adds an aging factor to your makeup. Please research brow shape and how to pencil in fuller ones for your face shape. Talking with a professional may help also. :)
You look good except for the eyebrows. You can see they are drawn in and it looks very artificial. Otherwise, more luminous.
Please tell older women, especially those fair skinned & light haired, to stop lining upper & lower lashes with black & dark brown liners & mascaras. Way way too harsh! Light brown & taupe eyeliner is better. (But if they want to look like raccoons, or a blanket with burn holes, I guess that's okay.)
