Grab a $5.98 Walmart Tshirt...😱

I was inspired to make this DIY t-shirt by a scrap of lace tablecloth I found that had a crochet style pattern.

This is a completely non-sew project that you can finish in less than an hour. Use a liquid fabric dye so it’s easy to dilute.

Tools and materials:

  • Plain t-shirt
  • Liquid fabric dye
  • Spray bottle
  • Water
  • Lace tablecloth
  • Rubber gloves

1. Gather your materials

I used a plain white long sleeved t-shirt to provide a good background to my pattern.

Make sure your spray bottle is super clean or get a new one.

2. Dilute the dye

Check the instructions on the bottle for the amount to use.

As you can see, I didn’t use very much liquid dye and filled the spray bottle about halfway with water.

Shake it well so the color is even.

3. Prepare the shirt

Spraying can get messy, so I like to do this outside.

Place a clean cloth under your t-shirt.

Lay the t-shirt out flat and line it up carefully.

Choose a tablecloth or large piece of lace that has a small repetitive pattern.

Position it over your t-shirt to cover the front and sleeves.

4. Spray

Spray the diluted dye evenly over the lace, through to the t-shirt.

The closer you hold the bottle to the lace, the stronger the color will be.

Keep spraying until you have the coverage and depth of cover that you want.

Lift the tablecloth away carefully to expose the stenciled pattern.

Allow the t-shirt to dry completely before moving it.

How cool is this? I stenciled the front only of my t-shirt so I didn’t have to worry about matching or overlapping the patterns.
