Easy Eyeliner Hacks for the Perfect Winged Look
Today, I’m going to share with you a horizontal eyeliner technique to elongate almost every eye shape, including hooded eyes. Follow along for a few winged eyeliner hacks that will upgrade your makeup look.
If your eyelids are particularly droopy on the outer edges, you might need to forgo eyeliner altogether.
When applying eyeliner, we typically follow the lower lash line upward, as if it continues. This can be a problem for hooded eyes as it can become distorted as the hood on the outer eye creates a fold.

Tools and materials:
- Brown gel eyeliner
- Eyeliner brush
- Eyelash curler
- Eyelash primer
- Mascara
- Mini eyelash curler
1. Apply eyeliner
Prevent losing lid space: Don’t take the eyeliner all the way across the top lash line. Instead, paint the upper waterline.
Use a brown liquid eyeliner with an eyeliner brush. Take it from the inner corner and all the way to the outer corner.
2. Make outward wings
Flattening your brush, make a line from the outer corner of your eye, almost directly outward in a horizontal line.
Think elongated outward rather than lifted upward.
Next, fill in a little V shape just on the outer corner. If your eyes are particularly hooded, you can just draw a small wing straight out in a line.
Then, once you apply mascara, you won’t need to worry about filling it in because you won’t even see it.
See this visual below to understand how I would normally apply the wings for a lifted, rather than elongated look:
3. Prep your lashes
Use an eyelash curler to lift your lashes.
Then apply eyelash primer to make your lashes fuller and longer. It goes on white but dries clear.
4. Apply mascara
Often, if you have hooded eyes, false lashes can overwhelm the limited lid space.
Instead, apply mascara only. You can accentuate and elongate your eyes by manipulating the direction of your mascara–swoop your lashes outward and don’t apply as much in the inner corners.
5. Tweak the outer lashes
Sometimes the mascara can cause the outer lashes to droop. Once the mascara has dried, use a mini eyelash curler to lift those outer lashes. This way, your eyelashes won’t distort the eyeliner.
