Try This Easy Hack to Keep Slingback Heels From Slipping

Are your slingback heels constantly trying to break up with your feet?

You take five steps and then flip, that strap's hanging off your heel again. Ugh, it drives me crazy.

There's a little trick stylists use that not only helps keep those straps in place, but also makes your shoes look a little more expensive and custom.

All you need are a couple of pieces of ribbon.

I like grosgrain because it stays put really well and I love its texture, but satin also works great on dressier shoes, and velvet's perfect for fall.

Tools and Materials:

  • A pair of slingback heels
  • Two pieces of ribbon, one for each shoe
  • Scissors, if you need to trim the ribbon

This double faced satin ribbon is PERFECT for this easy shoe hack!

1. Fold the Ribbon in Half

Take one piece of ribbon and fold it in half so the two ends meet. Make sure the folded end forms a small loop.

2. Thread the Ribbon Through the Strap

Thread the folded end of the ribbon through the inside strap of the shoe. You want the loop to sit on the other side of the strap.

3. Pull the Ends Through the Loop

Take the two loose ends of the ribbon and put them through the loop.

Pull gently until you've created a little knot around the shoe strap.

4. Wrap the Ribbon Around Your Ankle

Put the shoe on and wrap both ends of the ribbon around your ankle.

Adjust the ribbon so it feels secure without being too tight.

5. Tie a Bow

Bring the two ends around to the outside of your leg and tie them into a bow.

You can adjust the size of the bow depending on the look you want.

6. Repeat on the Other Shoe

Repeat the same process with the second piece of ribbon and your other shoe.

Final Thoughts

And that's it. Your shoe has a little extra support around the ankle, plus it looks like it came that way.

It's one of those styling details that make people ask, "Wait, where did you get those?" Sometimes the best fashion updates cost just $2.
