Follow This Easy Double Cleansing Routine For GLOWING Skin
Welcome to my morning face wash routine where I’m going to share 3 tips for cleansing like a pro. If you’ve never tried a double cleansing routine, I think you’ll love this tutorial!
Tools and materials:
- Spa headband
- Wristbands for water control
- Microfiber face pad
- Oil-based cleanser
- Foam cleanser
- Jelly cleanser
- Cream cleanser
- Clean towel
- BHA, PHA, and AHA serums
- Anti-inflammatory serum
- Moisturizer (cream or gel)
- Lip balm
- SPF 50 sunscreen
1. Use the right tools
Setting yourself up for success is key when it comes to washing your face and keeping breakouts at bay.
You’ll need the right tools to do this properly. I highly recommend investing in a headband that’s specifically made for face washing.
This one is a spa headband, specifically made for face washing. It’s wider and holds bangs back.
If you don’t like the feeling of water dripping down your arms, you can try wrist bands like these too.
No need to focus on keeping your sleeves dry with these!
Another cool tool is this microfiber face pad that’s cool because the fabric doesn’t collect bacteria.
2. Try oil cleansing
Oil cleansing is for everyone! I used to think it was just for removing makeup since oil-based cleansers break down makeup so well. But it also removes dirt, sunscreen and excess oils.
To get started, coat your hands with a healthy layer of the oil-based cleanser.
Swipe it across your forehead, chin and cheeks.
Then start massaging your face, which provides the added benefit of sculpting and depuffing your face.
Check out a lymphatic drainage massage method for best results.
Stay present and use your fingers in creative ways–use your knuckles and swipe upwards for a lifting effect. A full massage should take about a minute.
Next, rinse your hands completely clean so they’re just wet with water. Then go back for another 10 seconds to massage again.
3. Choose your cleanser type and do a “dry cleanse”
I’ve been studying skin for a while now and I’ve always wondered about different types of cleansers.
Foam cleansers are water-based, making it light-weight and bubbly.
I recommend this for somebody who never wears makeup, plus it’s great for sensitive skin.
A jelly cleanser looks different but has similar qualities as the foam since it is also water-based.
This is great for someone who wears makeup and removes it with an oil cleanser. Then you can follow up with a jelly cleanser like this.
My absolute favorite is a cream cleanser, which is much thicker than foam and jelly cleansers.
Cream cleansers are great at removing makeup and natural oils, meaning that your follow-up skin products will be able to penetrate the pores properly.
Once you’ve chosen your cleanser type, start a “dry cleanse”. To do this, coat your hands with a solid layer of cleanser.
Apply the cleanser everywhere, evenly, like a face mask for an additional minute.
The “dry method” involves activating the cleanser to your skin without a water barrier in between.
When the cleanser starts to get tacky, add water to your hands to begin the second process.
Don’t splash your face with water though. Your hands should be sudsy, like this:
Start lathering the soapy water from your hands into your skin. This is my favorite cleanse method because I love the results and how it feels!
As you lather the skin, do a bit more of a face massage, remembering little places like the bridge of your nose and even behind the ears.
Now rinse your face to reveal a fresh complexion. When drying off your skin, make sure that your towel is clean since the skin is vulnerable to bacteria.
Now it’s time to apply your go-to serums, now that your pores are ready to receive them.
I’m really into BHA, PHA and AHA acids that break the bond between old and new cells.
To support the skin barrier, I like to use a soothing, anti-inflammatory product, and I switch up these products all the time.
Make sure to close these bottles right after you use it so they don’t collect germs or lose potency! Always apply the serum to your neck and behind your ears as well.
Now it’s time to moisturize.
Whether you have long nails or not, I highly recommend using your knuckle to dip into your cream (if it comes in a pot) to avoid introducing bacteria from your nails into the product.
If you have skin that breaks out regularly, opt for a gel moisturizer.
People under 35 will typically benefit from using a gel moisturizer.
Don’t forget to moisturize your lips too!
Since it’s the morning, I’m adding sunscreen. This Korean sunscreen is SPF 50, so it provides protection but you don’t even see it.
