I think you’re going to love this DIY glasses case hack. I’m going to show you how to make a convenient and stylish portable sewing kit using some surprising materials. Grab a cheap glasses case and let’s get started!
Tools and materials:
- Fabric scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue sticks
- Ruler or measuring tape
- Pencil or fabric marker (optional, for tracing)
- Glasses case (used or inexpensive)
- Outer fabric (large enough to wrap around the case)
- Inner fabric (smaller pieces to line the inside)
- Small sponge (for pin cushion)
- Fabric scrap (to wrap the sponge)
1. Outer case
You can either use an old glasses case or pick up a cheap one at the store.
Open your glasses case and lay it out on a piece of fabric that’s large enough to wrap around the entire case.
Use a hot glue gun to secure the fabric around the case.
Tuck the edges of the fabric into the case and glue them down as well.
2. Inner case
Cut 2 pieces of another fabric into the shape of the bottom and top of the case. Then glue them down.
Cut another piece to cover the center of the case and glue it down.
3. Creating your pin cushion
Take a sponge and cut out a small square that’s about 1.5 inches per side.
Cut a square of fabric to wrap and glue around the sponge.
4. Stock with supplies
Glue the sponge square down to one side of the inside of the case. This is your new portable pin cushion.
Fill the rest of the case with thread, needles, bobbins, and whatever else you need.
