Quick and Easy Christmas Day Makeup Tutorial for Older Women
I have a house full for Christmas and I’ve chosen quite a blingy, sequinned top worn with black velvet pants for my outfit of the day.
I don’t want the top to overpower my face, so my Christmas Day makeup is going to be fairly strong and dramatic, while only taking a few minutes to apply.
I hope you find some inspiration here for your own party look.
The products I'm using today are from the Look Fabulous Forever range, made specifically for mature skin. However, you can achieve the same results with any brand of product.

1. The base
I’ve already applied face and eye primer, to give them a chance to dry before I add my foundation.
The next thing I do is clip my hair out of the way and put a large roller in my bangs, to give them a bit of added bounce.
I like to add another squeeze of Face Prime to my foundation, so I put it on the back of my hand.
Then I add a pump of Continuous Cover Foundation and a pea sized drop of Light Look Beauty Balm.
I mix these together on the back of my hand and apply with a large foundation brush.
I pat it in around my eyes with my fingertips to make sure it’s blended well.
I like to set my makeup with a translucent powder.
2. Add some color
I add a sweep of bronzer across the top of my cheekbones to add a bit of warmth.
I’m using Petal Pink blusher, which has a lot of pigment that’s perfect for my dramatic look.
I don’t want to overdo it though, so I dab a few spots on each cheek and blend it in well. I use a circular motion, blending upwards and outwards.
3. Interlude
Before I forget, I’m going to go around the outside of my lips with the Never Feather Lip Prime.
I love this product because it creates a barrier that stops my lipstick from bleeding into the little lines around my lips. It needs a few minutes to dry before I can apply the lipstick.
4. Brows
My brows are a bit sparse at the inner and outer corners, so I’m going to use a little Bring Back Brow gel in Blonde just on those areas.
It just needs a few light strokes, and then I brush it lightly through my brows with a dry brush.
5. Eyes
I’m using one of my favorite color combinations on my eyes today. With my cool coloring and grey hair, rose and navy make a dramatic pairing that’s perfect for the holidays.
I’m using a soft, wide brush to dab Dusky Pink eyeshadow on my mobile lids up to my eye socket.
My contrast shade is this very dark Navy Blue for the socket area.
I’m using a finer brush to apply this on the outer two thirds of my eye.
It looks strong now, but I’ll blend it in with the softer brush I used on my lids.
I’m using a dark navy eyeliner on my upper and lower lids. If you have crepey lids like mine, pull them gently outwards so the eyeliner goes on smoothly, close to your lashes.
I’ve never mastered wearing mascara on my lower lashes, so I use eyeliner to add some definition under my eyes.
For a slightly different look on my lashes, I’m using navy mascara.
6. Lips
I’m going for a bold lip color today.
I’m outlining my lips with raspberry lipliner and using it to fill in my lips as well. This will help my lipstick stay on longer without needing to be retouched.
Over the top I’m applying Monroe Red straight from the tube. It’s a beautiful pinky red that really flatters my complexion and tones well with the colors I used on my eyes.
I blot it carefully with a tissue and apply a second coat for even more impact.
7. Finishing touch
For a final highlight and touch of glamor, I’m going to use the Bright Highlighter.
I’m dotting it just under the outer edge of my eyebrows and across the top of my cheekbones. I press and pat it in with my fingertips and it gives a lovely lift to the top half of my face.
