Soft, hydrated lips are a key part of any beauty routine, and a turmeric DIY lip scrub is a natural, easy-to-make solution to exfoliate and nourish your lips.
Follow this step-by-step guide to create your own turmeric lip scrub at home. Â
Why turmeric?
Turmeric is more than just a kitchen staple. Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties can help soothe cracked or irritated lips.
Plus, its gentle golden hue can enhance your natural lip color, leaving them with a subtle, healthy glow.
Though be aware that turmeric can sometimes cause temporary staining! You may wish to use slightly less turmeric than the recipe recommends.Â
Tools and materials:Â
- 1 teaspoon of sugar (brown or white)
- A pinch of turmeric powder (around 1/8 teaspoon)
- 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil (or olive oil as an alternative)
- Optional: A drop of honey for added moisture
1. Measure and mix ingredients
In a small bowl or container, add the sugar and turmeric powder. Stir in the coconut oil until the mixture forms a grainy paste. If desired, add a drop of honey for extra hydration and mix well.
2. Prepare your lips
Remove any lipstick or balm from your lips by wiping them clean with a damp cloth. Gently pat your lips dry to create a clean surface for the scrub.
3. Apply the lip scrub
Scoop a small amount of the turmeric scrub onto your fingertips. Gently rub the scrub onto your lips in circular motions for 1-2 minutes. You can also use a lip scrubbing tool for this step if your lips are especially dry and chapped.

Tips for best results:
- Frequency: Use this scrub 1-2 times a week for optimal results. Over-exfoliation can irritate your lips.
- Patch test: Before using the scrub, consider doing a quick patch test on your skin to ensure you're not sensitive to turmeric.
- Storage: If you have leftover scrub, store it in an airtight container and use it within three weeks for freshness.
