Do you always buy the t-shirt at concerts, but then end up stuffing it into a drawer with the rest of them, because you just can’t possibly wear that many band t-shirts?
Check out this great way to upcycle t-shirts to give them an entirely new look that you’ll want to wear everywhere!
Tools and materials:Â
- T-shirt
- Fabric or a large scarf, preferably with fringe
- Scissors
- Sewing pins
- Sewing machine
- Thread
1. Cut your t-shirt
Fold your t-shirt in half, with the front facing out. Lay it down flat, and cut off the sleeves.
2. Make new sleeves
Lay your scarf or fabric down on your cutting board.
Cut the scarf in half lengthwise. If there is fringe, make sure you are cutting so that both pieces have fringe at the bottom.
Fold one of your pieces of scarf material in half lengthwise, with the patterned side facing in.
Using the armholes from your t-shirt as a guide, trace out a pattern for a sleeve on your scarf. Make it as long as you would like your new sleeves to be.
Cut out your new patterned sleeve.
3. Sew your new sleeves
Pin and sew the side seam of your new sleeve. Make sure you don’t accidentally sew the armhole shut!
4. Attach the sleeves
With your new sleeve right side-out and your t-shirt inside-out, begin inserting the sleeve, bottom (fringe-end) first, into the armhole of your t-shirt.
Slide the sleeve all the way into the t-shirt and pin the armhole of the sleeve to the armhole of the t-shirt.
Sew the sleeve into the arm-hole of the t-shirt.
Repeat for the other sleeve.
Upcycling a t-shirt
Turn the whole thing right side-out, and take a look at your fabulous new top!
Now, leave a comment to tell me how many old band shirts you’re going to transform with this upcycle t-shirt trick.
