1. Fabric for expanding panels
You will need fabric to make your upsizing panels. I’m using a pair of old jeans for my panels. Find something that complements the item you’re upsizing.
2. Open the side seams
Now you need to open up the side seams. I had to be very careful opening my side seams because the pockets are attached to the side seams. You can use a seam ripper to open the seams, or just cut.
3. Measure and cut
To cut your panels, figure out how much fabric you need to add to get the right size. Split it in half to make one panel for each side.
Once you chop the panels to size, make sure they’re the right length too. I had to sew some panels together to get the right length.
Make yourself a nice, clean hem at the top of the panels where they will fit under your arms.
4. Attach the panels
Line up the hem with the opening you made at the armhole. Sew, and repeat with all the remaining sides.
If you also have pockets on the side seams like me, just make sure to keep them open while you’re sewing.
