1. Mark out the new seam

Turn your jeans inside out and lay them flat.

Make sure the seams are all matched up.

Decide how much lower you want the jeans to sit.

Mark out the new crotch area. I made mine about 2 inches (5 cm) higher.

Taper the line to meet the existing seam.

2. Cut and sew

Cut away the excess material inside the line.

Resew the seam with a regular straight stitch.

Backstitch at the beginning and end of your sewing.

Make sure you start and finish the new seam at the existing seam, so you get a smooth finish on the outside.

3. Waistband

You have two choices with the waistband.

You can make it larger, as it will now be sitting at the top of your hips instead of at your waist.

I decided that I wanted a different look for mine to make it even more low waisted, so I used my seam ripper to remove the waistband completely.

It gave a super cool raw-edged look that I really love!

You are very creative. I would angle the new seam to about 10 inches down from the crotch area.

As to being in style - pretty much anything goes if it suits you & you enjoy it. A person develops their own style or tries to copy others. Choice. Very inventive with your jeans - look much better! (But do sew before cutting that inside seam🫣)
