Here, I’m going to show you how you can use it on your clothing to get rid of bad or musty odors. Let’s jump on in!

Tools and materials:

  • Vodka
  • Spray bottle
Pouring vodka

1. Pour vodka into bottle

Start off by pouring vodka into a little spray bottle.

2. Spray

Then spritz your clothing all over with the vodka.


Vodka will kill the odor-causing bacteria, dry odorless, and won't damage your clothes. It’s perfect to get rid of bad odors or muskiness in vintage pieces.

    Here’s my response to the five comments that I see here:

    I’ve used this method on clothes that I bought from thrift stores, but with mixed results – it seems to depend on the type of fabric. It also may help to try to dry the item out in the sunlight.

    As someone said here, buy the cheapest vodka. It’s not prohibitively expensive.

    I tried using rubbing alcohol, but the fumes were too much. The vodka, however, has almost no scent, and is not overpowering either during use, or afterwards (I have found that once the item is dry, there is no vodka scent whatsoever).

    I borrowed a gorgeous vintage beaded flapper dress from my friend who is a costumer, and she shared the Vodka tip. I was able to clean the dress myself before I returned it.
