How to DIY a Big T-shirt Into a Dress in 4 Simple Steps

Hey, everyone! In today's tutorial, I'll show you how to DIY a big t-shirt into a dress. Yes, that’s right, we’re going to make a dress from a t-shirt and it’s so easy. If you want to know how to make a t-shirt dress, keep reading!
Tools and materials:
- T-shirt
- Pins
- Fabric scissors
- Dress
- Sewing materials
1. Cut off the sleeves
The shirt I picked was a 2XL or an XXL, so keep this in mind when picking out a shirt for this t-shirt dress DIY.
To get started, lay your shirt out flat and cut off the sleeves because we don’t need them. The seams are going to affect how you cut your dress.
2. Match up your dress with the t-shirt
Next, pick out a dress that’s body fitting and lay it down against the t-shirt. Since t-shirts stretch, I chose a dress that also kind of stretches so I got the same feeling when I put my t-shirt dress on.
Simply lay the dress over the t-shirt, making sure the fabric is stretched out as much as possible.
3. Cut out the dress shape from the t-shirt
Cut along the dress, leaving a half-inch to an inch seam allowance. You should do this based on how confident you are that the dress will fit well.
Leave more seam allowance if you’re not sure as you can always take it in if it doesn’t fit the way you like.
If your dress doesn’t have sleeves, you can create them by cutting them out when you get to where the armpit hole is.
4. Pin and sew
Flip the dress inside out, make sure the ends are aligned as best as possible, then pin along the sides. This is to make sure the dress stays lined up perfectly. Then, sew along the pinned lines.
You can hand-sew or use fabric glue. I sewed with a zig-zag stitch.
Stretch the sleeves after they’ve been sewn.
