Turn 2 Upcycled Sweaters Into a NEW SCARF

I love knitwear, but knitting a scarf from scratch takes time.
Today, I’m using two thrifted sweaters to make myself a cozy winter scarf in under an hour.
You can make your DIY scarf any length and width you want.
So let’s get started!

Tools and materials:
- 2 sweaters in toning or contrasting colors
- Scissors
- Fabric clips
- Sewing machine
- Serger (optional)
1. Plan and cut
I started by deciding how wide I wanted my scarf to be.
Then I opened the seams on my sweaters and cut them into rectangles or strips.
I cut an equal number of strips from each sweater, but you can design your scarf however you like.
2. Join the strips
I separated the strips into two groups, mixing the colors.
Then I joined the strips in each group together by putting the shorter sides together with right sides facing so I had two long strips the same length.
For sewing knitwear, I like to use a zigzag stitch with a length of 2 1/2 to 3, which helps prevent the yarn from unravelling.
If you have a serger or overlocker, you could finish the edges with that.
3. Sew the scarf
I placed the two strips together with the right sides facing.
I clipped the long edges together and sewed them, leaving the ends open.
Then I turned the scarf right side out and sewed the ends closed.
DIY scarf
It’s so warm and cozy, and I love the color scheme!
Next time I think I’ll make my DIY scarf a bit longer so I can double wrap it.
