How to Stop the Zipper on Your Jeans From Showing

Jeans are a wardrobe staple for a reason — they're comfortable, durable, and look great on just about everyone.

However, they can sometimes be frustrating, especially when the flap of your fly stops covering the zipper properly.

This is a common issue that tends to occur after a few washes when the fabric loses its stiffness.

Fortunately, there's a simple zipper hack that can help restore the look of your jeans. All you need is some spray starch and an iron. Follow the steps below to keep your fly looking flawless.

Tools and materials:

  • An iron
  • Spray starch
  • An ironing board or a flat, heat-resistant surface

1. Prepare your jeans

Start by unzipping your jeans completely. Lay them flat on an ironing board or a similar surface, making sure that the fly is positioned flat and smooth.

2. Iron the fly

Set your iron to the steam setting. Press down firmly on the fly of your jeans, ensuring that the fabric is smooth and flat. This initial ironing step helps to straighten the fabric and prepares it for the starch treatment.

3. Apply spray starch

Once the fly is nice and flat, grab your spray starch and apply a generous amount to the area. The starch will give the fabric the stiffness it needs to cover the zipper properly.

4. Iron again

After applying the spray starch, go over the fly again with your iron. Press down firmly to ensure the starch is absorbed into the fabric.

This step is crucial as it helps the fabric regain its "muscle" and ensures that the fly stays in place, covering the zipper.

5. Let it set

Allow the jeans to cool and the starch to fully set before wearing them. This will ensure that the fabric holds its shape and continues to keep the zipper covered throughout the day.

The spray starch acts like a little boost of strength for the fabric, helping it perform its job effectively, just like it did when your jeans were brand new.
