Go to the Thrift Store for This GENIUS Idea
Here’s a really quick and easy idea for a summer top. It needs no sewing at all and you can put it together in just a few minutes.
Head to your nearest thrift store for a doily and some ribbon and get started!

Tools and materials:
- Large doily
- Narrow ribbon
- Scissors
- Safety pin
1. Choose your doily
You need to be able to wrap the doily around your body, with a small gap.
I found the perfect one that is shaped into a point at each end. If you don’t have one like this, you can use a plain rectangular one.
You will also need some narrow ribbon, in a matching or contrast color.
2. Make the ties
Cut two long lengths of ribbon and thread them through both the short ends of the doily. Attaching a safety pin to one end of the ribbon will make it easier to feed it through the holes.
If your doily doesn’t have tapered ends like mine, fold the edges into this shape before attaching the ribbon.
3. Shape the top edge
Hold the doily in front of you, with the ribbon ties at each side.
Fold the top edge inwards by about 2 inches (5 cm).
4. Tie the ribbon
Wrap the doily around your body and tie the ribbons securely into a knot.
Finish with a bow and trim the ends with a diagonal cut if you need to.
DIY cute top
You’ll probably want to wear a nude colored bra or bandeau top under this. What a perfect summer crop top though!
