Upgraded half ponytail
1. Make a half ponytail
Collect a portion of hair into a half ponytail. Leave out face-framing hair if you’d like. Secure the ponytail with an elastic.
2. Topsy tail it
Create an opening in the hair above the elastic and flip your ends through it.
Pull at either side to tighten.
3. Pull a section of hair through to the opposite side
Grab a small section of hair from the front on one side. With your other hand, pull your fingers through the opening above the elastic.
Pull that hair through the opening to the opposite side.
Use a bobby pin to secure it.
4. Repeat on the other side
Grab an equal section of hair from the other side.
Pull it through the opening to the opposite side.
Tighten the tail and insert another bobby pin on the other side to hold the crossed section in place.
Pinch and pull to add volume for a more relaxed hairstyle.
Here’s the finished look of this easy half ponytail for beginners:
Easy low bun hairstyle
1. Make a small loop bun with a tail
Pull out some face-framing hair. Gather the rest of your hair through a stretchy hair tie, except for the last twist.
On the last twist, pull the tail through partially to create a small, loop bun with the rest of the tail hanging out.
2. Halve, twist, cross and tie the tails
Split the tail in half and twist the ends around your fingers.
Bring them up.
Cross them and pull them down.
Twist them more around your fingers and tie them once under the bun.
Twist the remaining ends and tuck them into the bun to hide them. Secure with a bobby pin, ridges up.
That’s all there is to this simple-yet-stylish, low bun!
Upgraded ponytail
1. Make a ponytail with the top half of your hair
Grab the top half of your hair and pull it back. It should be a bit more than the loose hair. Secure it into a ponytail. Clip it up temporarily.
2. With the loose hair, make a loop bun with a tail
Grab the bottom section of hair and bring it close to the ponytail base. Twist a hair tie around it, but on the last twist, make a loop bun.
3. Pull the top tail through the loop bun
Unclip the top ponytail. Rotate the opening of the loop bun so it’s facing upward.
Pull the top ponytail through the loop bun opening. Temporarily clip the tail up on your head.
4. Tighten both tails
Split and pull the ends of the small tail to tighten it.
Remove the temporary clip. Then split and pull the larger tail to tighten it.
5. Finishing touches
Pinch the bun outward to add volume.
Push the bun flat against your head and push a bobby pin horizontally into it.
Here’s the finished, easy ponytail hairstyle:
Front braid
1. Part your hair and separate a front section
Create a part.
Going a couple of inches back, separate a front section of hair.
Temporarily clip the hair on the other side together to keep it out of the way.
2. Twist 2 sections of hair, add more hair and continue twisting
Grab 2 equal pieces of hair from the front.
Twist the front section over the other piece.
Add hair to the bottom section.
Twist it over the other section.
Continue to add hair and twist over the other piece.
Do this until you run out of hair and add a few more twists just behind your ear.
Stick a bobby pin up and through the tail here:
Pinch and pull at the front sections. You can make the same twist on the other side or keep it simple.
Top knot
1. Make a high ponytail
Leave out face-framing pieces and pull the rest of the hair back. Secure the hair into a ponytail.
2. Split and twist
Split your ponytail in two and twist the hair around your fingers.
3. Twist one tail around the base
Twist one of the sections of hair around the base of the ponytail.
Continue to twist the end around your finger as you wrap it around the base.
4. Twist the other tail in the opposite direction
Twist the other tail around the base (which now looks like a bun) in the other direction.
5. Secure the bun
Hold the bun in place and secure it with a clear, hair elastic.
Pinch and pull for fullness.
