Rainy Day Hack: How to Use a Scarf Ring and Protect Your Purse

I have a clever and stylish hack for you that will allow you to bring a folding umbrella with you, even if it doesn’t fit in your purse of choice. 


This same hack also keeps a wet umbrella from getting your bag soggy. Follow along for this fashionable scarf hack and learn how to use a scarf ring.

Tools and materials:

  • Folding umbrella
  • Silk scarf
  • Scarf ring

1. Fold a Triangle

Start by folding your large silk scarf into a triangle.

2. Wrap Folded Umbrella

Place the point of the triangle at the center of your closed umbrella and roll it until you run out of scarf to wrap with.

3. Tie 2 Knots

With the excess fabric on one end, tie a tight knot right up against the end of the umbrella. Then repeat this on the other side.

4. Attach a Scarf Ring

About a fist length after 1of the knots, attach your scarf ring tightly with another secure knot.

Then pull the other end of the scarf through the other side of your scarf ring and knot it in place.

    Hmmm. Do you have to stand there and untie the ties and rings to get to the umbrella? If so, what if all of a sudden it starts raining? I'd rather stick my umbrella in my purse
