1. Why do your Doc Martens squeak?

Squeaking is usually caused by the rubber sole rubbing against the leather upper, or moisture trapped in your shoe.

2. Stop the squeaking from the inside

There are a few ways to stop your Doc Martens from squeaking. 

You can apply cornstarch or baby powder to the inside of your shoe. 


You could also apply Vaseline or other petroleum product to the inside.

3. Lubricate the soles

If they are still squeaking, try applying Vaseline to the sole, or a lubricant like WD40


Just apply a small amount and let it sit for about one hour. Then wipe off any excess.

    WD-40 (a manufacturing lubricant) should not be used on leather or rubber soles. It will eventually draw out the natural oils in the rubber or leather, ruining them. If you want to stop squeaking use corn starch or something similar. Horseback riders have been doing this to their leather saddles which cost far more than some leather boots. If you want them waterproof, use mink oil. Or saddle soap after getting wet.

    Thank you to leaving oil & grease every where I walk. I’m sure there would be a lot of mad people if I littered their floors with oil.
